Washing Hands with Soap, StudentsAbstract
Background: Handwashing with soap is a simple yet highly effective practice for preventing the spread of disease. It has been proven to reduce the risk of diarrhea, acute respiratory infections (ARIs), and other environment-related illnesses that commonly affect children.
Methods: This activity was conducted in the form of a Handwashing with Soap (HWS) educational session using leaflets and hands-on practice.
Results: The Handwashing with Soap activity for students at Buraen 2 Elementary School demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills regarding clean and healthy living practices. Initially, they did not understand that hands can be a source of pathogenic germs after playing, using the toilet, eating, or touching dirty objects. However, by the end of the activity, students began to understand that hands are the primary means of spreading disease-causing germs following the educational session and practice on how to wash hands with soap.
Conclusion: The community service activity at Buraen 2 Elementary School, consisting of education and practice on handwashing techniques, was successfully carried out, and the students were educated on handwashing techniques in accordance with the WHO’s six-step method. It is hoped that such activities can be implemented on an ongoing basis
