Dengue fever (DHF) is caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by the Aedes sp. Efforts to chemically control mosquitoes and larvae, treat sufferers, and mobilize community participation have been carried out. One alternative that needs to be developed is using plant synthesis as a natural insecticide to protect humans from mosquito bites.
The use of plant-based insecticides with plant chemical composition that is still natural, easily decomposed and free from synthetic chemicals, does not harm human health. This research aims to determine the concentrated extract of Averrhoa bilimbi as a repellent for Aedes sp mosquitoes.
The method used in this research is pre-experimental research involving one special treatment variable and one control group. Treatment with a dose of 50 ml of extract was compared with the control group. This research was carried out repeatedly with a contact time of 3 minutes and repeated contact after 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours of applying the test material. The research sample was 360 Aedes sp mosquitoes. The research stage was making concentrated extracts of starfruit, breeding Aedes sp mosquitoes, then conducting tests using concentrated extracts of starfruit and adult mosquitoes.
Results of research testing concentrated extract of star fruit as a repellent for Aedes sp mosquitoes. with an average of 58-59 mosquitoes not landing in the test group for a duration of 3 minutes to 2 hours, while in the control group there were 7.7 - 11 mosquitoes (38.5%-55%) not landing. The test room temperature was 30◦C - 31◦C and the room air humidity was 58.3% to 60.7%.
Based on the research results, further tests are recommended by separating the chemical contents, testing the repellency of each chemical substance, testing several concentrations and formulating the extract into an anti-mosquito lotion product.
