Dengue Fever Prevention Education and Empowerment of Church Youth as Mosquito Larvae Monitors

Abstract

Dengue fever cases are still endemic in NTT, including in Kupang City. Seeing this condition, lecturers and students from the Kupang Ministry of Health Polytechnic of Health, in collaboration with the Community Health Center and Church, conducted community service activities in the form of dengue fever socialization and the formation of dengue mosquito larvae (jumantik) for church youth. This activity aims to educate and empower school-aged youth as young mosquito larvae (jumantik) for churches and their homes. This activity was carried out in November 2020 with the involvement of the Oepoi Community Health Center, the Pastor and congregation of the GMIT Mawar Saron Liliba Church, as well as lecturers and students from the Sanitation Study Program at the Kupang Ministry of Health Polytechnic of Health. There was an increase in knowledge only in several assessment items, while several other knowledge items still did not experience an increase in knowledge. There was an increase in the knowledge category for good knowledge from 8.7% to 13% and sufficient knowledge from 21.7% to 39.1%, while knowledge that was less than 69.6% decreased to 47.8% after participating in this activity
