Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Strategies: Health Services and Education at Car Free Day
Keywords:
Non-Communicable Diseases, Early Detection, Health EducationAbstract
The high prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) requires serious attention not only from the government but also from all members of the community. Early signs and symptoms of NCDs are often overlooked by those affected, yet serious complications may arise if these conditions are not properly managed. This community service activity was conducted as a preventive strategy against NCDs through early detection, health education, and group exercise. The early detection included measurements of blood pressure, random blood glucose levels, cholesterol levels, uric acid levels, and body mass index. The results showed that the majority of participants had normal blood pressure and blood glucose levels. However, several participants were identified with prehypertension, hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, elevated uric acid levels, and obesity. Health education was delivered in groups using posters, leaflets, and interactive discussions, complemented by collective physical exercise sessions. Post-education evaluations indicated an increase in participants’ understanding of NCD prevention. This community engagement activity highlights the importance of regular early detection and health education as effective measures to raise awareness and promote healthy behaviors in the community as part of an overall NCD prevention strategy
