Health Education on Being Aware of Malaria Mosquito Bites

Malaria is a public health problem that can cause death, especially in vulnerable groups (infants, toddlers, pregnant women, and the elderly). Malaria can also cause anemia, thus affecting work productivity. Malaria occurs in East Sumba and increases when the rainy season arrives, accompanied by environmental conditions that support the breeding of the malaria vector, namely the female Anopheles mosquito. This increases the transmission of malaria to people who lack knowledge and are not aware of malaria mosquito bites. The purpose of this community service activity is to implement health education through health counseling on being aware of malaria mosquito bites. The method of this activity is community service through health education activities for the community of Kambajawa Village, which totaled 38 participants. The media used were leaflets and educational posters. The activity began with a pre-test on malaria, presentation of materials, and a post-test after the counseling was carried out. The results of the pre-test on community knowledge about malaria were 81.58% of the community knew about malaria and were aware of malaria mosquito bites. The results of the post-test on community knowledge about malaria were 94.74% of the community who attended knew about malaria and were aware of malaria mosquito bites. It is recommended that health education activities about malaria be carried out continuously using interactive methods and regular evaluation to strengthen community prevention behavior.
